The product "A Very Special Heart" is being promoted as a way for emergency medical personnel to access emergency medial information on a patient to is not able to communicate through information stored on a USB drive on a necklace or key chain. What I have found out is that a lot of ambulance services and hospitals will not look for such a device nor will they put an "unknown" USB device into their computers. Thus having this device is worthless. I have spoken with the ambulance service and hospital that we use and found out the following: The ambulance service that is in our area only look for the medical bracelets. If not found, they don't waste any more time and start emergency medical treatment. The hospital will not plug any device into their computer equipment that is not owned by the hospital due to security concerns (not only the threat of viruses or malware which may be on the device but also that a device that is plugged in may have access to other patient information). I have attempted to contact the customer service department of "A Very Special Heart" but they are not responding to any of my attempts to get additional information on what they can do to help with this situation.
So if you are considering purchasing a product like "A Very Special Heart", please contact the medical providers in your area to make sure that this device will be used in case of emergency. This will save time and trouble down the road if they don't.
